SAFE is a community based project for young people. Its aim is to target the hardest to reach young persons in the Brentford, Chiswick and Isleworth (BCI) area, aged 8-21 years, with advice, support and improved access to health information.
The SAFE Initiative was formulated by the former BCI Primary Care Group, which recognised the lack of support services for marginalised BCI 8-21 year olds and the consequential negative effect on the future quality of life of the target group. There are many partners in the project from the statutory, voluntary and community sector, including: Hounslow PCT, London Borough of Hounslow Youth and Community Service, Hounslow Youth Offending Team, Grand Union Community Development, voluntary and community sector groups, Pharmacists and General Practitioners among others. Grand Union Community Development (GUCD) are the lead agency in partnership with SAFE: click here for more information about the Safe Project.
The project is being implemented using contemporary information and technology including this website, mobile texting, building heath into conventional sporting activities, training, workshops, seminars, youth outreach.
Project funding was sourced from the Big Lottery Fund. The project was initiated in 2003.
